The CHBC SGC was established in 2007 as an avenue for the church men to get out for a friendly 9 on a Sunday afternoon. Whilst these Sundays (1st Sunday of each month) still continue informally the main emphasis these days is on the twice-yearly trip to beautiful Gloucester.
Teams are selected (sometimes radomly, sometimes not) and then the teams choose their Captain.
The event caters for all levels of golfer - handicaps from 6 to 50 - so the format of competition is importantly 2-man ambrose stableford.
Gloucester 3rd Green - circa November 2008
Gloucester 9th Green - circa November 2008
The team event is decided via matchplay. Two 2-man ambrose teams play off against each other each 9 holes. The pairings and playing order are decided by the team Captains.
After each match, each player in a foursome ranks the other 3 players 3-2-1. The total of these points over the 3 rounds (of 9 holes) total to produce the overall Players Player.
The Players Player is awarded the trophy by the previous winner at the end of the weekend and re-presented the trophy at Church the following Sunday.
